Hayes, Forrest F.

Forrest F. Hayes, 78, a native of Wilcox, died Friday evening, October 10, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he was a resident. Born April 22, 1936 in Ridgway, he was the son of Cecil E. and Evelyn F. Hollobaugh Hayes. A peacetime veteran of the U.S. Navy, Forrest was a security guard for Wells Fargo in Los Angeles, and belonged to the VFW Post #1132 in Kane. Surviving are four sisters, Fern Throne, Donna Siggins, Monna Fay, all of Kane, and Jan Swanson of Wilcox; three brothers, Fred Hayes and Dohn Hayes, both of Kane, and Todd Hayes of Wilcox. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a brother, Mark Edward Hayes in infancy. A graveside service will be held privately at the Wilcox Cemetery with the rev. David Pflieger, chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.

Thomas W. Mehalko KANE Thomas W. Mehalko, 67, of 514 Horner Rd., Wilcox, passed away early Tuesday (October 14, 2014) at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys. Born February 1, 1947, in Wilcox, he was a son of George and Nellie Turzanski Mehalko. On July 27, 1968, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wilcox, he married Anita Johnson who survives. Mr. Mehalko had worked for Penn Tech and, more recently, was employed by Alpha Sintered Metals in Ridgway. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and belonged to the Wilcox Sportsman's Club and the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Dept where he served for 51 years, serving as Fire Chief for several of those years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, Robert (Dennise) Mehalko, Richard (Tracey) Mehalko, Randy (Sara) Mehalko and Ryan Mehalko, all of Wilcox; two daughters, Marsha (Thor) Lehman of Wilcox and Sarah (Josh) Shirley of Natrona Heights; thirteen grandchildren; four brothers, John Mehalko of Kane, Edward Mehalko and Donald Mehalko, both of Dover DE and Walter Joe Mehalko of Wilcox; and two sisters, Marie Kalp of Fayetteville and Catherine Mowrey of Wilcox. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James Mehalko. Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. David Wilson, pastor of St. Anne's Church, officiating. Burial will be in Wilcox Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department. Charles W. “Chuck” Boedecker, 66, of Hemlock Road in Warren, formerly of Kane, died Friday afternoon, October 17, 2014 at Warren General Hospital. Born August 14, 1948 in Kane, he was the son of Richard W. and Marjorie A. Eck Boedecker. Chuck worked for PennDOT in Kane for 34 years. He belonged to VFW Post #1132 in Kane, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 313 in Warren, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving, in addition to his long-time companion, Jackie Jefferds, are daughters Laura Boedecker of Dunkirk, N.Y., Tanya (Jake) Kitchen of Sykesville, Beth (Jesse Blankenship) Boedecker and Tessa (Bob) Hazen, both of Kane, sisters Carol Mix, Robin (Thomas) McGuire and Kristine Davis, all of Mt. Jewett and Connie (Mike) Asel of Kane, Debbie Doud, Cindy Anderson, Vicki Meneo and Chris Ingerson, all of Jamestown, N.Y.; brothers Paul (Kerry Jackson) Boedecker of Warren and Ronnie Stevenson and Richard Boedecker, both of Jamestown; and his stepmother, Marian Boedecker of Jamestown. Many grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by a son, Robert Asel, two grandsons, Andrew Bradybaugh and Roger Crate II, a sister, Nancy Boedecker and two brothers, Jeffery and Timothy Boedecker. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Warren Full Gospel Church, 126 Honhart Road, Warren, with Pastor Loretta Knapp officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor’s choice.

Nancy L. Brown, 69, of New Jersey Avenue in James City, died early Sunday morning, October 19, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital. Born April 22, 1945 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Richard M. and Frances J. Udovich Chittester. On November 9, 1964 in Kane, she married James R. Brown, who died in 1994. Nancy had worked at the Rite Aid store in Kane, then later became manager of the Rite Aid in Ridgway for several years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kane, and was a member of and active in the Kane Wrestling Club. She was also active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Robin (Bryan) Stahli of James City; a son, Eugene Brown of James City; two sisters, Donna (Ralph) Haight of Kane and Rebecca (Larry) McNeill of Kane; four brothers, Richard J. (Donna) Chittester of Stilesville, Ind., Edward Chittester of Lakeland, Fla., Walter "Corky" (Leslie) Chittester and James Chittester, both of Kane; five grandchildren, Francine Stahli, Kylie Blankenship, Darren, Nicole and Hannah Brown; and a great granddaughter, Adrianna Phillips. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a daughter, Amy Jo Brown. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Wednesday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., where a service will be held at 1:00 on Thursday with the rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor of the Mt. Jewett - Hazel Hurst United Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane. John E. "Jack" Snyder, 82, of Reynolds Street, Kane, died Wednesday afternoon at his residence. Born May 18, 1932 in Philadelphia, he was the son of Edward and Katherine Sullivan Snyder. After serving in the U.S. Army in Korea, he owned and operated Jack's Fix-it Shop in Kane for many years. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church where he belonged to the Methodist Men. More recently he had attended the First Church of God, Kane. He'd belonged to the VFW Post #1132 in Kane, and was a Life Member of the Handyman Association. Surviving are three daughters, Sandy Langer of La Mirda, Calif., Pam Schrecengost of Kersey and Deb Allegretto of Kane; four sons, Tom Snyder of Reno, Nev., Bob Snyder of Redland, Calif., John Snyder of Humble, Texas and Dave Snyder in North Carolina; a nephew, Jim Snyder in Greensburg, plus many grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, November 8th at the First Church of God with the rev. Chad Troup, pastor, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Staff Sgt. Irene A. Townsend KANE Irene A. Townsend, 95, of 443 Bayard Street, passed away Monday (November 3, 2014) at the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born June 12, 1919, in Renovo, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Mills McCloskey. On January 31, 1942, in Port Allegany, she married Robert Townsend who preceded her in death on February 22, 2001. Mrs. Townsend, a homemaker, had worked at Sylvania during World War II She had also previously served as a den mother with the Cub Scouts for many years. Surviving are a son, Robert Townsend of Kane; three nieces, Donna Sok of Niles, OH, Kathleen Smiley of Port Allegany and Sharon Baker of Virgina; two nephews, Jim Farnsworth of Niles, OH and Al Pullen of Rochester, NY; and four great nephews, Mike Anderson, Jay Anderson and Jeff Anderson, all of Kane and Rob Anderson of Baltimore, MD. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Vera Thrash, Mary Farnsworth and Margaret Pullen and four brothers, Bill McCloskey, Tom McCloskey, John McCloskey and Paul McClosky. Friends will be received from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. where a funeral service will follow with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor of St. Callistus Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Gabriel's Cemetery in Port Allegany. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Karlene M. Swanson MT. JEWETT Karlene M. Swanson, 66, of 5 Jackson Avenue, Mt. Jewett, passed away Wednesday (November 19, 2014) at her home. Born December 29, 1947, in Mt. Jewett, she was a daughter of the late Verle and Twila Hillyard Keller. On February 7, 1970, in Mt. Jewett, she married Bill Swanson who survives. Mrs. Swanson loved riding motorcycles with her husband. She had been employed by Keystone Thermister in Mt. Jewett, from which she retired in 2004 and was a member of the Mt. Jewett United Methodist Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Karen (John) Lawton of Mt. Jewett; a son, Michael (Brenda) Swanson of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Katlin and Colton Lawton, Paige, Skyler and Michael Swanson; a great grandson, Chase Michael Salzillo; two sisters, Fay (Bruce) Leet of Smethport and Patty ( the late Denny) Milliron of Maine; and a brother, Butch (Carol) Keller of Mt. Jewett. Preceding her in death, besides her parents, was a brother Verle "Monty" Keller. Memorial services will be held at a later date to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Bruce E. Horam, 81, a resident of The Lutheran Home at Kane, formerly of 524 1/2 Tionesta Avenue, Kane, died Saturday afternoon, November 1, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital. Born February 10, 1933 in Mt. Jewett, he was the son of Harry and Elizabeth Horam Horam. On July 16, 1955 in Greenwood, he married Eva Moore, who died in 2010. Mr. Horam served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from which he received the Purple Heart. He had worked at the Tannery in Wilcox, then at Kane Handle, and later at Erie Industrial Clark - Erie as a forklift mechanic. Bruce belonged to the First Church of God in Kane, and was also a member the Kane Vol. Fire Department for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Loretta Hayes of Kane; two brothers, John Ginkel of Mt. Jewett and James Ginkel of Warren; a granddaughter, Heather Smith of Kane; two great grandchildren, Alia and Cole Smith; plus several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by four brothers and three sisters. Friends may call at the First Church of God on Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00, at which time a memorial service will be held there with the rev. Chad Troup, pastor, and the rev. David Pflieger, Chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, co-officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of God, P.O. Robert L. Gerhart, 84, formerly of 525 Greeves Street, Kane, died early Sunday morning, November 9, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he resided. Born March 24, 1930 in Kane, he was the son of Louis and Sara Heasley Gerhart. On June 8, 1957 in Kane, he married Edythe Swedenjelm, who survives. Mr. Gerhart worked in the paint line at Stackpole Corp. in Kane for many years. He was a C.B. Radio enthusiast, going by the handle "Ringo"; enjoyed drawing and woodworking, and was a music aficionado, with the Beatles being his favorite. Surviving, in addition to his wife "Edie", are a daughter, Nancy Blankenship of Kane; two sisters, Pearl "Sissy" Benson and Janie Read, both of Kane; two brothers, John Gerhart in California and Francis "Manny" Gerhart of Kane; and grandchildren Jennifer Blankenship, Stephanie Wormsley, Amanda Blankenship and Chelle Blankenship. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by four brothers and two sisters. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 on Tuesday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, and may attend a service there at 11:00 on Wednesday with the rev. William LaVelle, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Kane, and the rev. W. Craig Smith, pastor of the Mt. Jewett - Hazel Hurst Methodist Churches, co-officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery following cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Nurses Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Rd, St. Marys, PA 15857, or to the First United Methodist Church, 112 Greeves St., Kane, PA 16735.
