Julie A. Hunt KANE Julie A. Hunt, 68, of 224 Hacker Street, passed away Thursday (January 8, 2015) at the Lutheran Home at Kane after an extended illness. Born October 26, 1946, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Violet Ohlson Hunt. Julie was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had previously been employed as a baker at the former Market Basket in Kane. Surviving are a sister, Phyllis Prosperi of Kane; four brothers, Dennis Hunt of Seffner, FL, Edgar Hunt, Donnie Hunt and Harold Hunt,all of Tampa, FL ; a niece, Kathleen (Matthew) Prosperi-McClard of Kane; and several other nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was a brother, Kenneth Hunt. Friends will be received Saturday (January 17, 2015) from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.at Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church where funeral services, with the Rev. William Waterman, pastor, officiating will be held at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Kimberly Ann Spicer KANE Kimberly Ann Spicer, 45, of Marienville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday (January 17, 2015) at UPMC Hamot. She was born July 8, 1969, in Erie. On June 24, 1989, in Kane, Andy Spicer and Kimberly wed. She was the daughter of Robert and Lavina Curtis Carlson of Kane. Kimberly was a Medical Assistant for the Warren Medical Group. She was a member of the Word of Grace Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Tionesta. Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are three daughters, Cassandra Spicer of Chandler, AZ, Megan Spicer of Jamestown, NY and Skye Spicer of Marienville; a granddaughter Violet LaCross of Jamestown; five brothers, Clarence (Sheryl) Foster, David (Roberta) Foster, Bobby Carlson, Larry Carlson and Donald Schenk; four sisters, Carol Carlson, Lori Ackerman, Stephanie Moore and Terrie (Gary) Ribovic; two aunts, Loretta Wrotney and Phyllis (Gary) Olson; her mother-in-law, Carol Spicer; three brothers-in law, Steven (Robin) Spicer, Wayne Spicer and Nathan (Brittany Henry) Spicer; and two sisters-in-law, Stephanie (Mark) Leichtenberger and Amanda (Wayne) Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Agner and Bessie (Mohney) Carlson and Steven and Hazel Curtis; two aunts, Diane Englert and Doris Ballew; four uncles, Harry Eugene Carlson, Stephen Curtis, Roy Curtis and Harry Curtis; a nephew, Trever Carlson; and her father-in-law, Stanley Spicer. Robert L. Jones KANE Robert L. Jones, 83, of 100 High Point Drive and formerly of 326 Chase Street, passed away at Kane Community Hospital on Saturday (January 17, 2015). Born August 27, 1931, in Johnsonburg, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Gertrude Zilkofski Jones. He was married to Jean Hurley Jones who preceded him in death in 1999. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Before his retirement, he was employed by Stackpole. He was a member of the Kane Fish and Game Club and the Delaware State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He also enjoyed making trips to Delaware to watch his granddaughters' softball games and dance recitals. Surviving are a son William (Jodi) Jones of Magnolia, DE; two granddaughters, Kelsey Jones and Megan Jones, both of Magnolia; and a sister, Joanne Thompson of Emporium. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Jones. Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Callistus Catholic Church with the Rev. Walter E. Perry Jr. KANE Walter E. Perry, Jr., 83, of 326 Park Avenue, Kane, passed away Tuesday (January 20, 2015) at UPMC Hamot in Erie. Born July 30, 1931, in Smethport, he was a son of the lateWalter and Ruby Shuey Perry. He was married in Hermosa Beach, CA, to Mary Ellen Prowse who preceded him in death. Mr. Perry was a Mechanical Engineer for Hughes Aircraft. He was a member of the VFW Lodge #1132 in Kane and also belonged to the National Rifle Association. Surviving are four daughters, Lisa M. Perry of Kane, Yvonne Rothstein of Huntington Beach, CA , and Cynthia Jacobson and Jennifer Layton, both of Crestline, CA; a son, James Perry of San Francisco, CA; and a grandson, Nathaniel James Perry of Kane. Mary J. Leibfried MT. JEWETT Mary J. Leibfried, 83, formerly of Mt. Jewett, passed away Wednesday (January 21, 2015) at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport. Born February 18, 1931, in Hazel Hurst, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Susie Greeley Reinard. Mary, a homemaker, also did volunteer work at the Mt. Jewett Senior Center. Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Fox of Dover, Mary Ellen Mason of Marietta and Elizabeth (Tony) Frey of Elizabethtown;six granddaughters; two grandsons; two great grandsons; two great granddaughters; a sister, Dora Reinard of Mt. Jewett; a brother, Stanley (Karen) Reinard of Hazel Hurst; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a daughter, Charlene Leibfried; five brothers, Vernon, Carl, Richard, Robert and Walter Reinard; and four sisters, Florence Walker, Donna White, Susan Carney and Mable Reinard. Arlene R. Park MT. JEWETT Arlene Ruth Park, 98, formerly of Mt. Jewett, passed away Monday (January 26, 2015) at the Bradford Ecumenical Home. Born November 4, 1916, in Sargeant, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Ruth Hanson Swanson. On November 16, 1940, in Warren, she married Woodrow Park who preceded her in death. Mrs. Park graduated from Bradford High School in 1933 and from the Hamsher House in Bradford as a registered nurse. She worked at Bradford Hospital and then did private-duty nursing after that. She also worked for a few years in New Jersey and Texas while living in those states. Surviving are a daughter, Linda K. Campogiani of Rochester, NY; a son W. Robert (Merle) Park of Wall, NJ; two grandsons, Jeffrey W.(Sarah) Park and Gregory R. Park; a granddaughter, Stephani L. Campogiani (Angelo) Gollel; eight- great grandchildren, Miranda L. Gollel, Ava Lyn Gollel, Ella R. Kudzma Park, Naomi Park, Isabel Bearce Park, Quinn J. Kudzma Park, Jamie Victor Park, Milo Bearce Park; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Ralph P. Campogiani, III and her sister, Leona DeRosia. Caroline Carson KANE Caroline Carson, 88, formerly of 6103 Route 66, Kane, passed away Wednesday (January 28, 2015) at the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born February 14, 1926, in Kane, she was a daughter of Nazzarno and Anna Fontnelli Caramboni. On February 22, 1947, in Kane, she married Emmet R. Carson who preceded her in death. Caroline was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church. She had been employed by the former Benson Office Supply, Mountain City Bootery and most recently, Carson Landscaping. She belonged to the Kane Garden Club for many years and was a past president. She also did volunteer work for the Lutheran Home at Kane, the Kane Food Pantry, and Meals on Wheels. Surviving are three sons, Terry Carson, Paul (Becky) Carson and Alan Carson, all of Kane; a daughter, Nancy Carson of Rochester, NY; two grandchildren, Jessica (Steve) Whiteman and Shannon Carson, both of Kane; two great-grandchildren Carson Whiteman and Ava Whiteman both of Kane ; her sister, Rose Orzetti of James City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by four sisters and two brothers. Friends will be received Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the gathering space at St. Callistus Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Donna Kay Wolfe KANE Donna Kay Wolfe, 46, of 105 Clay Street, died suddenly Wednesday (January 28, 2015) in the emergency room at Kane Community Hospital. Born February 19, 1968, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Nancy Nelson Allen. On June 7, 1985, in Kane, she married Larry Wolfe who survives. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, David Wolfe and Luke Wolfe, both of Kane; and a sister, Tammy (Craig) Carlson of Bradford. Frances K. Meckley KANE Frances K. Meckley, 97, formerly of 526 Tionesta Avenue, passed away Thursday (January 29, 2015) at the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born May 22, 1917, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Pasqualina Costanzo Perry. On November 22, 1941, in Kane, she married Orvis S. Meckley, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1997. Fran had worked at various times at the former Shirt Factory, the Temple Theater and Houston Electronics. She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church where she sang in the choir. She also had belonged to the CD of A Court Callistus #66 and the former Altar-Rosary Society. Surviving, are a son, Gary Meckley of Jefferson Hills; three granddaughters, Jayde (Jim) Hanjos of Indiana, PA, Michele Rash and Cindy Meckley, both of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Todd Bizzak of Kersey; four great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Bizzak; a grandson, Rico Bizzak; and four brothers, Joseph, John, James and Anthony Perry. Theodore L. Hutchins KANE Theodore L. "Ted" Hutchins, 68, of 526 Janeway Street, passed away suddenly on Sunday morning (February 15, 2015) at Kane Community Hospital. Born April 11, 1946, in Kane, he was a son of the late John and Mary Zaunick Hutchins. On November 9, 1972, in Kane, he married Jennifer Wilson who survives. Ted had been employed at SGL Carbon in St. Marys. Surviving, in addition to his wife Jennifer Hutchins, are a son, Eric (Kris) Hutchins of Eleva, WI; three sisters, Millie Cliff of Roscoe, IL and Susan Hutchins and Sally (Marty) Ambrose, both of Kane; a brother, William Hutchins of Winfield, WV; and several nieces and nephews. KANE Jay A. Depto, 52, of 148 Bliss Hill Rd. Ludlow, died Friday (Feb. 20) at his residence, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 19, 1963 in Kane, the son of the late Edward and Dona (Martin) Depto. On Oct. 12, 1985 in Kane he married Sabrina Vanerstrom, who survives. Jay had worked as a self-employed logger for many years and also as a farmer. He was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and also a member of several different bass clubs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed doing these and other activities with his family. He was also a heart transplant recipient, which he received in 2003. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Edana Depto and two sons, Logan and Evan Depto, all at home; two brothers, Paul and Randy (Mary) Depto, both of Ludlow; five sisters, Helen (Andy) Kartez of Ludlow, Susan Depto or Kane, Elda Depto of Latrobe, Jane Depto of Johnsonburg and Lisa (Steve) Olson of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 at St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane, with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Gibbs Hill Cemetery. MT. JEWETT James J. Morgan, 79, of 9152 Rte 6, Lantz Corners, passed away on Feb. 20, 2015 at UPMC-Hamot in Erie. He was born on Aug. 16, 1935 in Halsey the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Rendosh) Morgan. On July 22, 1961 in Mt. Jewett, he married June (Wallin) Morgan who survives. He was a graduate of Kane Area High School and had served in the US Army. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mt. Jewett, the Mt. Jewett Sportsman Club and the Mt. Jewett Veteran's Memorial Club. Mr. Morgan had been employed by the Railroad, the PA State Highways as an inspector, Corning Glass, Dale Electronics and Temple-Inland. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking and carving birds. Surviving relatives include one son, Craig Morgan of Johnsonburg; four grandsons, Christopher, Brett, Pierce and Marcus Morgan; and one great-grandson, Joshua; two brothers, John Morgan of Sayre, and Edward (Jennifer) Morgan of Campbelltown; one sister-in-law, Mary Morgan of James City and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark J. Morgan; one brother Joseph Morgan and two sisters, Kathryn Hasney and Ann Morgan. Friends will be received on Monday (Feb 23) from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home in Mt. Jewett. KANE Donald L. Bedford, 74, of 1125 Jo Jo Rd., Kane, died Saturday evening at the Kane Community Hospital. He was born June 16, 1940 in Kane the son of the late Harry and Dorothy (Brechtel) Bedford. On May 13, 1989 in Kane he married Christine Engman, who survives. Mr. Bedford had worked for Keystone Carbon and also as a logger and most recently for Domtar from which he retired. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kane and also the BPOE # 329 in Kane. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, John Bedford of Kane and one daughter Jacqueline Beford of Kane. He was preceded in death by his parents, one half brother, Robert "Bobby" Bedford and his step mother, Mary "Nanny" (Casilo) Bedford. Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home in Kane on Tuesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mary Lanor Dougherty KANE Mary Lanor "Norie" Dougherty, 83, a lifelong Kane resident, passed away Tuesday (March 3, 2015) at the Lutheran Home at Kane. Born March 28, 1931, in Kane, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Pearl Johnston Dougherty. Norie had been employed for many years at the Kane Manor and also at the former Hillcrest Restaurant. She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church. Surviving are a brother, Robert Dougherty of Kane; two sisters, her twin Mary L. Craig of San Bernadino, CA and Marie Swanson of Kane; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by two brothers, Jack Dougherty and William Dougherty; and three sisters, Katherine Nordahl, Winifred Smiley and Margaret D. Anderson. Born April 23, 1915, in St. Marys, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Dempsey Caskey. Mrs. Carley, a 1933 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in St. Marys, was a homemaker and also had worked at the former Arcade Restaurant in Kane . She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church. Surviving are six sons, Paul "Jake" (June) Carley Jr. of Ludlow, Kenny (Ginny) Carley of Pensacola, FL, Howard (Joanne) Carley of Forney, TX, Dennis "Andy" Carley of Mesa, AZ, John "Munch" (Betty) Carley and Joe "Mike" (Pam) Carley, both of Kane; a daughter-in-law, Carol Carley of North East; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Carley, Sr.; a daughter, Cleora Carley; two sons, Thomas "Tom" Carley and James "Pat" Carley; and two sisters, Isabelle Caskey and Henrietta "Lady" Hanes. Kevin P. Causer KANE Kevin Paul Causer, 48, of 11 S. Elk Avenue, died Sunday (March 15, 2015) of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born November 28, 1966, in Kane, he was a son of Edmond and Patricia Stewart Causer. On June 29, 2001, in Kane, he married Nicole Pennington who survives. Kevin had been employed by the Mt. Jewett Borough for 25 years. He was a graduate of Kane Area High School, class of 1985. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his parents of Mt. Jewett; four brothers, Stephen "Turtle" Causer of Phoenix, AZ, Christopher Causer of Monaca, Dana Causer of Hazel Hurst, Jamie Causer of Mt. Jewett; and a sister Diane (John Carney) Arthurs of Mt. Jewett He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Guy R. Wolfe KANE Guy R. Wolfe, 58, of 15 Massachusetts Avenue, James City, passed away Monday (March 16, 2015) at UPMC Hamot. Born February 15, 1957, in Kane, he was a son of the late Thomas G. Wolfe and Evelyn Ranf. Guy, a graduate of Kane Area High School class of 1976, also attended Erie Business College and Triangle Tech in DuBois.He belonged to the VFW Lodge #1132 and was an amateur radio operator. He had been employed at Kwik Fill in Kane. Surviving, in addition to his mother of James City, are a brother, Kenneth A. (Vonda) Wolfe of Lakeside, AZ; and a sister, Judy (Tom) Orzetti of James City. Preceding him in death, besides his father, were an infant brother, Thomas Wolfe and an infant sister, Susan Wolfe. MT JEWETT Patricia Louise Benson died and entered into life eternal on March 25, 2015. She was the daughter of Harry Albert and Katherine Margaret (Hagen) Naugle. Pat was born August 26, 1929 in Johnstown, PA. She was raised south of Johnstown in Davidsville. She was the third of six children. She attended Conemaugh Township Schools. She played flute and piccolo in the Conemaugh Township Junior and Senior High School orchestra, the marching band, and the concert band. She also played flute with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra. She graduated in June, 1947. Pat attended the Pittsburgh Art Institute where she studied photography. She worked eight years for the Johnstown Tribune Democrat newspaper. Pat was baptized, confirmed, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school in St. David’s Lutheran Church in Davidsville. She wed the Rev. V. Theodore Benson there on June 18, 1955. During her married life she and her husband lived in Warren, Cambridge Springs, Edinboro, New Castle, Mount Jewett, and the Kane area, all in Pennsylvania where her husband served Lutheran congregations. As a homemaker she was the mother of three children: Matthew, Andrea, and Kirsten. While in Mount Jewett she spent approximately 15 years volunteering at the Mount Jewett Memorial Library and served about the same number of years on the Library Board. She was a member of Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church (Mount Jewett) and the Women of the ELCA. She belonged to the Mount Jewett Book Club. She was the first woman to be elected to the Mount Jewett Borough Council and served one term. Pat was a Mount Jewett correspondent for the Bradford Era newspaper for a time. She worked for 19 years in food services for the Kane Area School District in both the Kane middle school and the Mount Jewett Elementary School. Pat is survived by her husband of 59 years. Her son, Matthew T. (Karen) Benson of Kane area; her daughter Andrea L. (Peter Nelson) Benson of Portland, Oregon; and her daughter Kirsten L. (Raymond) Becker of Southhampton, PA. And three grandchildren: Chelsea (Benjamin Mueller) Benson of Hudson, NY; Aaron Benson of Bend, OR; and Kathryn Becker of Southhampton, PA. And great grandchildren Ada and Graham Mueller. Two sisters, Donna Goble of Scottsdale, AZ and Janice Harris of McDonald, PA and a brother Wayne (Diane) Naugle of Hershey, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Marjorie McKinney and a brother Harry K. Naugle. Visitation will be Friday, March 27 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Cummings Funeral Home in Mount Jewett. Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Mount Jewett on Saturday, March 28 at 10:30 am. The Rev. David Pflieger, Chaplin of the Lutheran Home in Kane, will officiate the service. Interment will be in the Lebanon Cemetery, Kanesholm. Memorials may be given to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Mount Jewett or Lebanon Lutheran Church, PO Box 455, Kane, PA.
